Niemo is a member of the VT Class of '98. While not a professional journalist by any stretch, Niemo analyzes and breaks down every minute of Hokie hoop action. He also researches topics of interest such as Hokie recruits, program revenue, statistical data on the team, previews VT opponents, and discusses his favorite bourbons/Scotches. In addition to his passion for Hokie hoops, Niemo has attended 126 straight VT football home games (every game since '94), eclipsing the 100 mark in September of '09 and recently attended his 20th consecutive VT/uva game. During the final home basketball game of his senior year, he was brought onto the court and was awarded 2 passes to the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament in Philly during a timeout for being a "Super Fan" during his time at VT. The Hokie Bird made the award on behalf of Athletic Director Jim Weaver. Niemo was known to be in the front row of every home game with his familiar red afro hairdo.

  1. Niemo says:

That’s why we say this is the “Home for the Hardcore Hokie Basketball Fans”. Nothing is more hardcore than arm curling players! The Hokie Celebration was a lot of fun and I encourage everyone to go next year. The only downside was Cheick passing out from the heat. Just need to upgrade the liquor selection next year. Virginia Gentleman bourbon? Please! I wouldn’t serve that to a wahoo.

  2. Brad Wesley says:

Did any of the players object to being held by another grown man?

[Niemo’s Reply: Seth did.  He was the only party-pooper.  Actually, Collins didn’t want to do it, either, but Tucker talked him into it.]

  3. Demari Thompkins says:

That is Dwatts in the last pic, no?

[Niemo’s Reply: Yes, it is the infamous Damon Watlington.  Ran into him outside the event.  He was one of my favorite players while I was at VT.  Sort of a poor man’s Zabian Dowdell, although Damon was a very good player and excellent shooter.  Didn’t try to arm-curl him, though :-)]

  4. Black says:

Man Niemo, no love for the official unofficial photographer. Sad.

[Niemo’s Reply: Ha!  My bad.  Much love for the second part of the VIP Crew – Mr. Grant.  For those of you that don’t know, Mr. Grant was the original VT bball super fan and I took his title upon his departure in 1996.  And by the way – my back is KILLING me.]

  5. Dimari Thompkins says:

    BTW. Cool pics!

  6. #1Stunna says:

What would Lee say? You’ve left him behind…

  7. Utpr0sim says:

I see sweets, but no Uncle Nick :^(

[Niemo’s Reply: You have to be there when things start getting a little more loose!]

  1. […] Wait a minute … there is someone else you can blame for this loss … Niemo! Tech is 1-3 since he arm-curled the team! This is all his fault! […]

  2. […] Read hate mail from readers that blame the loss on you based on the fact VT is now 1-3 since you arm-curled the team. […]

The Wild Hokie Club!

The Hokies experienced their worst season since the ricky "program bomb" stokes era. Sure, it would have been easy to quit on you, but did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? HELL NO!

And we do it for free! But, just like NPR, we rely on the generosity of our loyal fans to help keep this humble Hokie website alive. That being said, see how you can help make it to 10 years!

Jon King, Ben Floyd and Dan Rickenbach all got in on the action and we encourage all TechHoops heads to do the same.

Any donation amount earns you a spot in our Wild Hokie Club. We'll even give you a shout out on Twitter and Facebook. We may even let you get armcurled by Niemo.
