Cassell TOTALS 510 150

That’s a winning percentage of 77% all-time in the Cassell! It truly is one of the greatest home advantages in the land.  Last year, VT tallied their most ever wins in a season at the Cassell with 17.

In the 50 seasons of Hokie basketball in the Cassell, the Hokies have only had one losing season at home.  That came in 2000-01 during the ricky stokes era.  In 2010-11, VT celebrated the 50th season of basketball in the Cassell.

Niemo is a member of the VT Class of '98. Attended every home basketball game during his 4 years at VT after missing the first home game. Has attended 122 straight VT football home games (every game since '94), eclipsing the 100 mark in September of '09. During the final home basketball game of his senior year, he was brought onto the court and was awarded 2 passes to the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament in Philly during a timeout. The Hokie Bird made the award on behalf of Athletic Director Jim Weaver. Niemo was known to be in the front row of every home game with his familiar red afro hairdo. Niemo currently lives in DC and speaks the Hokie gospel as often as possible. He watches over 50% of all ACC games, making him one of the most knowledgeable experts on ACC basketball.

I think this article should be more visible. We VT Hoops fans have a basketball arena that one can really be proud of. A Winning percentage of 78% all-time is amazing. That ranks 5th in the ACC. That is the top half for a “football School”. This ranks 62nd IN THE NATION, out of 336 schools. That is the top 20th percentile. Here is a fun website, which I’m sure you have already consulted for some more info.

Note that a lot of teams ranked Higher than the Cassell have only been in those arenas for a limited amount of time, so their numbers are a little inflated.

If we did indeed go undefeated at home as the year-by-year records indicate then you should add that to the list of undefeated seasons.

  • Bryan

that is, undefeated in 2009-2010 at home.
