Cassell TOTALS 527 164

That’s a winning percentage of 76% all-time in the Cassell! It truly is one of the greatest home advantages in the land.  VT tallied their most ever wins in a season at the Cassell with 17 back in 2009-10.

In the 50 seasons of Hokie basketball in the Cassell, the Hokies have only had one losing season at home.  That came in 2000-01 during the ricky stokes era.  In 2010-11, VT celebrated the 50th season of basketball in the Cassell.

Niemo is a member of the VT Class of '98. While not a professional journalist by any stretch, Niemo analyzes and breaks down every minute of Hokie hoop action. He also researches topics of interest such as Hokie recruits, program revenue, statistical data on the team, previews VT opponents, and discusses his favorite bourbons/Scotches. In addition to his passion for Hokie hoops, Niemo has attended 126 straight VT football home games (every game since '94), eclipsing the 100 mark in September of '09 and recently attended his 20th consecutive VT/uva game. During the final home basketball game of his senior year, he was brought onto the court and was awarded 2 passes to the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament in Philly during a timeout for being a "Super Fan" during his time at VT. The Hokie Bird made the award on behalf of Athletic Director Jim Weaver. Niemo was known to be in the front row of every home game with his familiar red afro hairdo.

I think this article should be more visible. We VT Hoops fans have a basketball arena that one can really be proud of. A Winning percentage of 78% all-time is amazing. That ranks 5th in the ACC. That is the top half for a “football School”. This ranks 62nd IN THE NATION, out of 336 schools. That is the top 20th percentile. Here is a fun website, which I’m sure you have already consulted for some more info.

Note that a lot of teams ranked Higher than the Cassell have only been in those arenas for a limited amount of time, so their numbers are a little inflated.

If we did indeed go undefeated at home as the year-by-year records indicate then you should add that to the list of undefeated seasons.

  • Bryan

that is, undefeated in 2009-2010 at home.

The Wild Hokie Club!

The Hokies are experiencing their worst season since the ricky "program bomb" stokes era. Sure, we could have quit on you, but did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? HELL NO!

And we do it for free! But, just like NPR, we rely on the generosity of our loyal fans to help keep this humble Hokie website alive. That being said, see how you can help TechHoops.com make it to 10 years!

Jon King, Ben Floyd and Dan Rickenbach all got in on the action and we encourage all TechHoops heads to do the same.
