Jeff Allen Suspended for 2 Games by ACC Commissioner; VT Response

Update: Allen and Greenberg Respond to the Suspension

Well, we won’t be seeing a match-up between two of the top candidates for ACC Rookie of the Year when duke’s kyle singler travels to Blacksburg on Thursday. That’s because Jeff Allen has been suspended for that game and the game at bc on Saturday for bumping an official after he fouled out in the georgia tech game. He was T’d up and ejected at that point.

The ruling came from ACC Commissioner John Swofford today – Article

Personally, I think one game would have been appropriate but two is excessive.

A stupid mistake by a freshman, though I think a two-game suspension is a little harsh for such minor contact. It wasn’t like Allen tried to knock the ref over, he just bumped him with his elbow.

It was dumb as hell and Jeff Allen should be running extra sprints at 5 AM everyday this week… Seth Greenberg has to nip this in the bud right way… While Virginia Tech was getting mugged by the Yellow Jackets, the Hokies were getting screwed with tick tack fouls… small change as Bill Raferty would say… so I can see the frustration from Allen, but it’s no excuse for losing his head the way he did… however, I agree with you guys that the punishment was a little rough… this hit on Tylor Hansbrough from Gerald Henderson was much worse… and I think he only a one game suspension (and Billy Packer is full of crap… he is such a ACC-North Carolina homer):

  1. [...] January 24, 2008 by Gary Virginia Tech lost tonight, 64-81, to the duke blue devils. The Hokies gave it their best shot, but without Jeff Allen, who was serving the first of a two-game suspension, they just couldn’t hang with the devils and their eight McDonald’s All-Americans (Virginia Tech has had exactly one McDonald’s All American in school history – Dell Curry).
