I've got to go with Niemo on this one... maybe it's harsh, but what grades would Duke's freshmen get? UNC's? I think if we want to be a mainstay in the ACC then we have to look at our players through the same microscope we use against our opponents. I think we can all agree that the 2nd half of the season is going to be as exciting as we've ever had at VT and these young players continue to get better on a weekly basis. Thorns was getting ripped for his defense earlier in the year, and look at him now! You have to hand it to Greenberg (an obvious choice for ACC COY at this point), he gets every one of his players to play team defense. The only grade I would have changed is Deron's... I think he was a B last year, but has regressed to a C+ this year. His shooting percentage isn't just bad, it's atrocious. And his flops have given almost as many easy looks at the basket as they've created turnovers. I am hoping he can put it together in the 2nd half of ACC play because right now I'm not sure that we wouldn't be better off giving Terrell Bell his minutes. The NCAA will look at how Virginia Tech plays during the conference season and also focuses on the 2nd half of the season and we need to close strongly.
