Quick Shots from the ESPN Bracketologist, Joe Lunardi

Joe Lunardi

So, some of you might recall that ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi was TechHoops.com’s first Q&A back in the Spring. I traded a few emails with Joe this week after he placed Tech in his “Last Four Out“. Here are his quick shots (thoughts) about the Hokies’ NCAA chances:

TechHoops.com wants to get your take on what Virginia Tech must do in order to be a lock for this year’s NCAA Tournament. Frankly, I am shocked to even be typing this email, but we would love to publish your response on TechHoops.com.

Joe: Virginia Tech and “lock” should not be in the same sentence this year.

Ha … So “lock” was inappropriate. Let me rephrase:

In your opinion, what would it take for Virginia Tech to be listed within your field of 65?

Joe: Top third of the ACC.

Wick’s Notes: What a Genius! No wonder he gets paid the big bucks. Joe does touch on a point that I haven’t seen made around here yet, and that is Hokie fans need to root for unc and duke in every game except the one on Feb. 16th. We can’t have any other team scoring a “signature win” against the two powerhouses of the conference because it will only give that team a leg up in the selection process. The NCAA has to pick 4 ACC teams this year. Anything less is unfathomable to me. With that assumption, why not us? With the exception of the twerps, no other team seems to be improving. It’s a long way to go, and we have to win first, but if we do, the Big Dance is ours for the taking.

    Wick,

The only way that the ACC gets four wins is if someone unxpected wins the Big East or Atlantic 10 conference tournaments… as I recall, Syracuse did this last year.

We need 11 ACC wins to get to the tournament… I don’t think 10 will do…

We might be able to pull 5 wins out, though… I think we will beat miami (because the young Hokie will have had some rest), geogia tech, boston college, wake forest, and maryland (I think we can sweep the terps and the eagles)… and if all we need are 10 ACC wins, this is a good thing… but I can’ fnd 11 wins… I don’t think we beat unc or clemson

Yes, you’re right… it does seem weird that the ACC would only have 3 teams… but everyone is beating up on each other… year in and year out, the ACC is one of the toughest leagues in the land… the Big East only has so many times in the Dance because they fricking have 16 teams in their conference, for heaven’s sake?!?!?

unc, duke, clemson, and a fourth team. I can’t believe that the ACC will only get three. On another note, looks the hoos have mailed it in – down 20+ to clempsun

Hey, Wick, next time you want a quality interview like this, just let me know and I’ll go interview the homeless guy up the street. He could have have offered the same insight.
