Some of the stories that I have heard about the players under both Stokes and Hussey are unbelievable. One story that sticks out involves tanking a game in the 2H of the A-10 tournament because some of the players had plane reservations for spring break the following day and if they won they wouldn’t get to go. But you are right, my friends that played for him had a lot of concerns. They said the coaches didn't really "coach", but just yelled that they screwed up without explaining what they should have done. stokes is fresher in my mind and watching him in timeouts was like watching me try to tell a brain surgeon what to do... he had no idea what to do and usually just stood around, often outside the huddle. Most of the blame for our decline has to lay with Coach Foster as well as Dave Braine for keeping Bobby Hussey as a coach. After our NCAA season in 1996 Foster pretty much started his retirement tour. Foster's last season was a complete joke, he got rocking chairs at every away game as a bon voyage gift. Hussey had no control of the players and then when he was done screwing up the program Jim Weaver hires a Wahoo!!! Are you freaking kidding me?!?! Rickey Stoke is one of the nicest people in the world but he is possible one of the worst coaches in history. He has taken two mediocre programs, VT & ECU, and made them embarrassing, now that’s talent I don’t have the graduation numbers in front of me but I know that more players were expelled than graduated. But JW has redeemed himself with the Seth G hire. I was not pleased at first with the hire but obviously it has worked out and I think Seth wants to build something at VT like Beamer did.
