I tell you what, if J.T. isn’t a spark, then we may be in big trouble. I have a feeling he will be. The good news is the ACC, except for wake, is less physical than xavier, wisconsin, and uga. The ACC is a finesse league, and that is why VT has success. Tech’s lack of bulk inside doesn’t haunt them on the glass.

We can’t seem to put together a complete game. What is our strength in one game, turns out to haunt us and be our downfall in another. Hopefully, eventually all the pieces will come together at once.

I’m actually worried about a complete and total collapse of what was supposed to be a promising season for the Hokie men’s basketball team. Someone has to get these guys heads on straight. Perhaps Greenberg has to go back to the players and parents again and sigh the contract. I just don’t see the defensive intensity out there… i see the players going through the motions.

Wick, I don’t disagree with you… but we need to win 10 games in the ACC (and a win against either Duke on UNC)… I don’t see 9-7 getting us in… and I’m not sold on us winning all the non-conference games that we have left.

Not even the NIT is inevitable. Remember 2005-06 when we came in with high expectations and did not reach the postseason? Of course, there were many off the court issues, but there was plenty of disappointment on the court.

But, even so, our season is not decided in December. Plenty of opportunities to turn things around in ACC play even though this one burns.

Can someone please explain to me why in the hell we can’t box out on fricking free throws? There is no way Georgia should have 2nd chances. Poor old Seth must be beside himself right now… there’s a reason he is bald… his players are making some very boneheaded fouls right now. We got dominated all night inside. If Vassallo is going to foul someone, he better hit them hard and make them earn it at the line rather than hipchecking (this isn’t hockey).

Sigh.

Let me give you some straight talk on Hokie Hoops. NIT is appearing to be inevitable, unless there is a drastic turnaround in conference play. We’ve lost to xavier, seton hall, wisconsin, & georgia. We’ve lost xavier, seton hall, wisconsin, and georgia by a grand total of 8 points. The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team does not have a non-conference win against a team from the SEC, Big 10, Pac 10, Big 12, or Big East. We cannot lose to richmond again this year. We do not need further embarrassment.

Let’s be clear: We are 5-4 right now and four of our wins have been very close (fairfield was the only game we won comfortably). It doesn’t seem like we have intensity or a sense of urgency when we are on the floor.

If we win our next four non-conference games (a fairly good reality, but not sure we beat marist or st. johns), we would be 9-5 at duke on Januaru 4, 2009 when we begin Atlantic Coast Conference play. The georgia loss, of course was painful (1 point). If we our remaining non-conf games, we will be 10-5 (the remaining game in January is against Richmond).

We need to win 10 games in Atlantic Coast Conference play if we want to be NCAA bound. We need to have a win against Duke or North Carolina on our resume if we expect to get into the tournament. That might be a little too much for this team, considering the youth and, quite frankly, stupid mistakes I saw tonight. Problem is, I’m trying to figure out where those 10 wins are coming from in conference. Can someone help me figure this out?
