Tech Talk Live Notes | 12/7/09

The highlights from tonight’s show:

  • Most of Seth’s air time this week was taken up by Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stoken, who also headed up last season’s ACC Tournament at the Georgia Dome.  It sounded like Seth & Stoken are buds of some sort.  Stoken indicated that when he was finalizing the official bowl bid with Jim Weaver, he inquired about how the Hokies were doing in their hoops contest against the dawgs.  When told the Hokies were up by 11 with less than 5 minutes to go, he said he joked with Weaver that if Seth couldn’t hold that lead he should be fired!
  • As we know, vmi plays a run and gun, up tempo style.  The key to slowing down the keydets will be the Hokies defense and the Hokies keeping their defensive responsibilities.
  • VMI forces over 22 turnovers per game, so ball handling will also be important.  The keydets also shoot a lot of 3′s. [see my GAME PREVIEW for more on that]
  • penn state is putting a lot into Saturday’s game.  The are expecting one of the biggest crowds of the year in Happy Valley.
  • penn state is a really good team.  They won the NIT last year and also won at national runner up michigan state.
  • The nittany lions have a great guard in Battle.  Containing him will be very important.  [Tim Frazier is another terrific, lightning-quick guard they have that will present challenges but more on that later this week...]
  • And then they went back to even more Peach Bowl talk.

I agree that Penn State is a good team, but they were picked about 9th in the Big 10 (11) and have lost three returning starters from last year’s NIT team. Talor Battle is a baller for sure… he’s a great player… but I’m not sure what else they have on their roster… I think if we do a harrasing style defense on Battle (like we’ve done on Jack McClinton in previous years), we will win this game on the road.
