This game just made me feel really weird in general, because while I was proud of the way Jeff exerted himself out there yet stayed free from foul trouble, the team overall was just flat as pancake to start things off... especially on D. Couple that with the fact that Miami was playing out of their minds, and presto... 19 point deficit.

It was very impressive that we never folded, though, and were able to cut the lead down to 5 on numerous occasions at the end. How sickening was it though to watch us get it to FIVE... and then FIVE... and then FIVE... and never be able to break through. When Johnson missed the front-end of that 1&1 and we got the rebound... I thought for sure that we had the magic again and were going to get it done. But then Malcolm tosses up an ill-advised prayer of a teardrop that doesn't go down, and that was that.

Oh well... tough to swallow a loss to the last place team in the league, even if it was on the road... but it's certainly no showstopper. Now we've just got to heal up throughout the early part of this week, and be ready to make SURE that UNC's woes continue. We CANNOT let them get healthy against us... they already have one foot in the grave, and we need to BURY them.

Must... defend... the Cassell...

You could tell that Miami was fired up to play us. They must have felt pretty embarrassed by their performance in Blacksburg because they just would not be denied in the first half. They were hitting NBA-range 3-pointers like they were nothing, and unfortunately Tech didn't match their intensity. If it weren't for JT Thompson finally saying "enough" and deciding to take the ball strong to the rim, we might have lost by 20 points. I've really been impressed with Thompson in the last two games, and I'd love for him to take on the role of "electrifying bench player" for us. Every time I watch the Cleveland Cavaliers play, I find myself wishing the Hokies had an Anderson Varejao to bring in off the bench who plays lock-down defense, draws offensive fouls, grabs offensive rebounds, and makes critical buckets. Thompson could be that guy.

Davila played very soft on D. Let his man start off low on the blocks and continue to back him down. I thought that Allen and Davilla were concious of picking early fouls. This started opening up easy 3 point shots for Miami when Tech was forced into doubling down.

1. It was a terribly officiated game. Neither of those fouls on Dorenzo from 3 were legit, the Eric Gordon call was awful, and JT should have been to the line at least twice more. 2. Having said that, WE lost this game ourselves, not because of the refs. How many times were we at 5 points? How many bad shots did we put up quick into the possession, bad passes did we make, or 3 point shooters did we leave open off of a switch? 3. Malcolm and Dorenzo have got to stop putting up shots and flinching midway through the release to try to trick the ref's eye. Just put up your shot and if you get fouled try and hit the AND-1. 4. Penetration! The commentators were all over this all game long and it's our achilles heel. We can't continue to run possessions from 35 feet out and swing the ball in an attempt to open up a 3-point shooter at the end of the shot clock. We are NOT a good enough 3-point shooting team to live and die by the 3-ball. We need penetration and kickouts to free up shooters and get good shots!
