Zabian Dowdell Not Resigned by Phoenix

When former Hokie and All-ACC First Teamer Zabian Dowdell’s 10-day contract ran out on January 19th, the Phoenix Suns elected not to sign him to another 10-day contract or for the rest of the season. ?Dowdell played in two games – 4 points in 12 minutes in a woodshed beating, and going 0/1 in 1 minute against Portland.

Unfortunately, it might be back to the D-League and the Tulsa 66ers for Dowdell.

Has attended 122 straight VT football home games (every game since '94), eclipsing the 100 mark in September of '09. During the final home basketball game of his senior year, he was brought onto the court and was awarded 2 passes to the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament in Philly during a timeout. The Hokie Bird made the award on behalf of Athletic Director Jim Weaver. Niemo was known to be in the front row of every home game with his familiar red afro hairdo. Niemo currently lives in DC and speaks the Hokie gospel as often as possible. He watches over 50% of all ACC games, making him one of the most knowledgeable experts on ACC basketball.

I read somewhere that he might rejoin the Suns after they finished their road trip. From the boxscores, he looked good in everything but scoring if I recall correctly. Would certainly bring better defense than they’re capable of playing right now. Everyone has an off shooting night now and then, so 1-6 and 0-1 (from memory) in two nights seems like an awfully small sample size to make a decision off of. Of course we don’t know what he looked like in their practices.
