Hokies to Face george mason in the Preseason NIT

News had already been leaked that Virginia Tech would once again be playing in the NIT next year, although this time it would be the Preseason NIT.  We now know from more leaks in the VT Athletic Department (according to the Washington Post and other sources), that george mason will be one of the teams in the Blacksburg bracket and likely will be the Hokies’ first round opponent.  16 teams compete in the Preseason NIT, with four teams hosting a bracket (VT will be one of those hosts).  Each bracket winner then advances to New York and gets to play in the self-proclaimed Most Famous Arena in the World, Madison Square Garden.

It stands to reason that george mason will be Tech’s opponent in the first game of that bracket since sources are claiming the two schools will play.  Both teams are guaranteed at least two games — the winners of the first two games play the next day while the losers also do battle.  That’s why I believe mason and VT will be first round opponents since otherwise there would be no guarantee they’d play.

Has attended 122 straight VT football home games (every game since '94), eclipsing the 100 mark in September of '09. During the final home basketball game of his senior year, he was brought onto the court and was awarded 2 passes to the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament in Philly during a timeout. The Hokie Bird made the award on behalf of Athletic Director Jim Weaver. Niemo was known to be in the front row of every home game with his familiar red afro hairdo. Not a good way to start the year. We better take this serious.

Once again another no-win situation, IMO. We beat them, it’s as it should be, and if we lose, it’s all about the sky falling!

I want to win by 20…that’s the only way to really make a statement with this game.

the Patriots better start watching tape of C.J. Barksdale NOW… they have officially been warned.

We should be playing more good in-state mid majors like George Mason, VCU, and Old Dominion.

Hip_Hop – I know you are really big on Barksdale. But, I think you are getting a bit too much bounce in your hop. I can’t disagree because I haven’t seen him play but I can’ get my hopes that high for an incoming freshman who is not a 5-star recruit (and if he were a 5-star we wouldn’t have gotten him). I hope you are right but I don’t see him dominating in the first few games of his college career. Heck, we don’t even know if he will start yet? You really think GM will watch high school tapes of his play?

Somehat related but how long are you going to keep the VT/NIT logo on top of the page? As painful as it is I think you should keep it up there until we get an NCAA bid.

Chris – I was meaning to get that taken down… although we are playing in the preseason VT/NIT next year!
