VT Full Schedule Out

LINK TO HOKIESPORTS

So our full schedule is here.  Here are the highlights/my commentary.

  • 29 total games.
  • 16 home games including uva, maryland, and duke.  Oh, and vmi is back on the slate for just the 2nd time in 8 years.
  • 18 ACC games with 7 home-and-homes versus maryland, ga tech, wake, duke, uva, miami, and clemson.  Tech lucks out only having to play unc (away), nc state (also away), and fsu (home) just once.  That means VT will have to wait at least another year to finally win at fsu, the only current ACC school VT has won at in ACC play.  The Hokies also play bc (home) just once.
  • All 18 ACC games are played in 2013.  No out of conference games are mixed in, so VT is done OOC at the New Year.  I miss the one ACC December game we used to play.  Although we almost always lost it and found ourselves in the hole a game going into the New Year.
  • We play oklahoma state… again.  Seriously.  This is the 4th match-up with the pokes in 3 seasons.
  • We play iowa in the ACC(14)/Big(12)10 Challenge… again.  Seriously.  3rd time in 8 years, while we haven’t played anyone else more than once.  Who likes variety?!  Not us.
  • At wvu on December 8th.  Finally!
  • We travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Mormons on December 29th.  Revenge time.
  • Vegas, baby, Vegas!  December 22nd and 23rd.  My wife just watched me drink for 2 weeks straight, now she can watch me drink and gamble away our Xmas bonus.  Jelly of the Month Club here we come!  The gift that keeps on giving the whole year through.

Niemo is a member of the VT Class of '98. Attended every home basketball game during his 4 years at VT after missing the first home game. Has attended 122 straight VT football home games (every game since '94), eclipsing the 100 mark in September of '09. During the final home basketball game of his senior year, he was brought onto the court and was awarded 2 passes to the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament in Philly during a timeout. The Hokie Bird made the award on behalf of Athletic Director Jim Weaver. Niemo was known to be in the front row of every home game with his familiar red afro hairdo. Niemo currently lives in DC and speaks the Hokie gospel as often as possible. He watches over 50% of all ACC games, making him one of the most knowledgeable experts on ACC basketball.

No game the day after the ACCCG this year. Instead it is the same day. How many people will try and pull of the doubleheader… assuming we make it.

Glad we don’t play at BC. Seems like it is a struggle.

Johnson says he’ll keep the same style

I wasn’t convinced they were going to the NCAA with Finney-Smith and Harrell unless 9-9 in the conference would suffice (when 10 wins were inadequate under the previous management). The coaching staff wasn’t either considering they all jumped ship after the season.

Axe to grind with Mormons, Niemo? ;)

Me personally, i’m waiting for Gallaudet one of these days. Sweet, sweet revenge.

Why is DFS still listed on this site as part of the roster?

Good grief, I finally got around to looking at our schedule and our out of conference slate would make your eyes bleed. That tournament in Las Vegas is hardly worth turning on the TV to see. We are the only BCS-conference team in the tournament. Our best hope is to play either Portland or Colorado State in the championship game. I know our team is probably going to suck this year, but can’t we even pretend like there’s hope? We’d have to dominate the ACC to have a shot at the NCAA tournament with this schedule.
