Game Highlights | VT 95, iowa 79

Here are the moving pictures from Tech’s 95-79 win in the ACC/Big(14)Ten Challenge filled with Niemo’s typical trademark ‘BRRRRAHHH’s and ‘Turkey’s. The Hokies roll to their 6th straight win to start the season as Erick Green hits the 20+ mark for the 6th straight time.

Niemo is a member of the VT Class of '98. Attended every home basketball game during his 4 years at VT after missing the first home game. Has attended 122 straight VT football home games (every game since '94), eclipsing the 100 mark in September of '09. During the final home basketball game of his senior year, he was brought onto the court and was awarded 2 passes to the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament in Philly during a timeout. The Hokie Bird made the award on behalf of Athletic Director Jim Weaver. Niemo was known to be in the front row of every home game with his familiar red afro hairdo. Niemo currently lives in DC and speaks the Hokie gospel as often as possible. He watches over 50% of all ACC games, making him one of the most knowledgeable experts on ACC basketball.

You know if we can have “quiet night” by Raines with 9 pts and 6 rebounds and CJ with 11 and 7, I think we take that most of the year.

I need to watch the game (for some reason I am having trouble with ESPN3 and replays) but on your highlights it looks like Raines has pretty good position a lot but the guard either drives or shoots. Need to dump it in some to the big guy. You might get a more open shot out of it.

Right now the guys are still getting a feel for the offense. When we get further into the season, it will be important that when we are operating in a half court set we feed Raines the ball, and make a point of doing it. 4 shots is way too few for him in 24 minutes.

True, but the big guy also needs to learn to kick it back out to the perimeter if a good scoring opportunity isn’t there. A couple of times last night, he forced up a bad shot inside when he didn’t have good position and the Iowa defense had collapsed down on him. There’s nothing wrong with passing the ball back out to one of the guards so that we can continue to run the offense.

Thanks for making me spill my coffee on myself with the “Kid and Play” comment, Niemo! Man, that was good.

Really happy with the effort tonight. Solid win.
