Major Props to the Students!

I came across this on TSL. I didn’t hear it at the game, but a big high-five to all you students for chanting this at the end.  Sorry it didn’t work out.

Bear Fight Chant

I’ll make all current students a deal (that are 21+).  If you find me at a bar after a Bear Fight win, the BF is on me.

About the Bear Fight:

Basically, a Bear Fight is a drink (or drinks) at a bar where you do a Jager Bomb and Car Bomb back-to-back (pretty much the worst idea ever). So when the Hokies win by 20+, my buddy DuffHokie and I do a Bear Fight after the game.  I started mentioning it in our Game Recaps as a ‘Bear Fight’ victory. We’ve been doing that for the last few years and I guess it caught on with you (awesome) students. I must admit this really made me laugh, I had no idea. Unfortunately, we couldn’t hold onto our 21 point lead and thus sales of Jager Bombs and Car Bombs must be way down in Blacksburg tonight.

FYI: The ‘Bear Fight’ was invented in Chicago (I assume after the Bears, being Captain Obvious that I am) and brought east by the Hartmans.

Should we bring back Shirtless Halftime, too??!!

I noticed a “Jon King” Bear Fight “shout out” in the game recap. Who is this “Jon King” you speak of? A knowledgeable fan, no doubt. (note: I am no Jon King)

We will be naming each Bear Fight this season after a generous donor to our site. He’s first up.

@HH…just a fan of Tech basketball and, more importantly, TechHoops.

@Niemo…thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was when we reached 100 pts. This raises an interesting point though. What do you call it when Tech wins by 20 or more points AND scores over 100 points? Better think of something quick.

          A Turkey Stampede?

        • Niemo

King – ha, I don’t think we’ve ever been faced with that dilemma.

We beat GT 102-77 a couple years ago. What was your drink of choice that night?

          • Niemo

I think that game was on a Sunday and I don’t drink on Sundays, so there you go. That was the day of the Hokie Celebration (where they serve hooch before, during, and after the game in Jameson). Very bitter about that but that was an awesome game.

  • goodraisin

Wow, that’s awesome! Congrats Niemo & TechHoops… I hope they keep going with it!

@Krishna, I was at that game! That was great stuff. Paul Hewitt got tossed and the student section went nuts. If I remember correctly, we hadd 99 points until Ty Garland banked a 3 off the glass. Good stuff

So what’s the meaning of the students lined up and pointing with one hand with solemn looks on their faces??

    • http://www.thegarycope.com Cope-acabana

It’s an intimidation technique. Purely for the benefit of the students in the stands, though. Not sure how may players have actually been affected by it, but it makes for good TV.
