“Throwing a party tonight,” Cadarian Raines (from May 1, 2012)

The above Twitter quote was in reference to Virginia Tech hiring James Johnson as its head basketball coach back on May 1, 2012.  I found it while researching Head Coach James Johnson’s salary recently in this article (LINK) from ESPN.  The now infamous Cadarian Twitter quote was mentioned in other articles, too.

“Throwing a party tonight.”  I hope it was a good one, Cadarian, because it didn’t last.

The next party Cadarian likely will be throwing is when this season is finally done and he can move out of the JJ doghouse.  Raines hasn’t played in the last two games, and hasn’t left the bench in 4 of the last 9 games.  He’s tallied double digit minutes in just one of the last 6 games.

JJ might be Ricky Stokes long lost brother

I’m sorry but JJ’s coverup kept the media and fans at bay for a little
while but I don’t think anyone still believes his statements and I
expect the heat to be turned up on him very quickly. Last night when he
responded that CR was a career 4 pts/game career player as a way to
downplay his ability, that was telling of JJ’s character. What was
Green’s career avg before his senior yr? To tell me that TT is ahead of
CR and gives us a better chance to win is laughable. With 5yrs
experience, comes wisdom that freshman don’t have. In addition, we have
no post offense. With our guards in a shooting slump, don’t you think
you might want to try our only post player with some O. JVZ is a
defender/rebounder only. Neither he nor Barksdale can play with their
back to the basket. At least Barksdale has a jumper. Hell JVZ’s range
is out to what….3ft?! And worse, he shoots 37% from the line. The
truth will come out even if it’s after the season.

I can’t figure out if JJ was a legitimate hire by Weaver or a favor to the incoming AD. Seriously, what did JJ do to earn an ACC head coaching job? He doesn’t deserve to be here. I think Weaver just wanted to make a cheap easy hire and JJ fit the bill. I don’t, for a second, believe Weaver cares or cared about basketball. I attribute the practice facility more to SG than JW. Welcome to rock bottom.

  4. Les says:

A basketball team without a post player on offense looks as ugly as a football team without a running game. And we’ve got both of them. People can bitch about bad coaching, dumb players, bad fundamentals, and so on, but the other team knows what you’re going to do and focus harder on stopping the one thing you can do (by extending the perimeter D).

  5. Slam Dunk says:

Cadarian is a 65% free throw shooter this year and 50% for his career. That’s why we need him in there!!! Heck of a lot better than what we seem to be getting here lately.
