33 J.T. Thompson

Attended Hope Christian Academy (Kings Mountain, NC)

Forward | 6′6″, 210 lbs. | Jr.

Stats: J.T. Thompson

Sophomore Year:
J.T. has been working with the perimeter players and has slimmed down some. It appears the Hokies are primed to use Thompson at the 3-spot (wing) to help replace some of Deron Washington’s departed minutes.

Freshman Year:
J.T. burst on the scene in the duke game, scoring 13 points and grabbing 8 rebounds (both career highs at the time) while replacing the suspended Jeff Allen. Thompson followed that up with a 14 point and 12 rebound double-double in an overtime win at bc less than 48 hours later. After averaging just 13.3 minutes per game in VT’s first 18 games, he played at least 15 minutes in Tech’s final 16 games beginning with the duke game. He averaged 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in those games and finished with 5.6 ppg and 4.1 rpg for the year.

J.T. is an explosive leaper on the offensive and defensive end. He seems to be the “air-apparent” to Deron’s high flying dunks, although J.T. is no Deron. Thompson is also very aggressive on the boards and will battle for any loose ball, despite being undersized inside, where he played most of his freshman season.
