[...] The keys to winning this game were keeping Jeff Allen out of foul trouble, playing lights out defense, and getting some quality play from the freshman guards … for a change. Check, check and check. Surprisingly, Hank Thorns (Fr., Guard) played 29 minutes and scored 7 points, including a jumper that got the Hokies to within three, 63-66, with 1:32 left in the game. Malcolm Delaney (Fr. Guard) also played 29 minutes, but he dialed up 13 points. His three pointer with :52 seconds left tied the game at 66-66. So, the guards combined for 20 points and were responsible for getting the Hokies back in the game late. (If the Tech could get that kind of production every game, I like our chances of getting into the N.I.T.) [...]

[...] The eagles are led by 5′11″ Junior Guard #10 adris deleon. This is good for VT since 5′9″ Hank Thorns can play him and not give up much height or quickness. The eagle guards are the only offensive threats on this team, other than williams (who really should be a guard). They love to chuck up the threes, but they shoot a very average 32% from behind the arc. The eagles average 22 three attempts per game, using the three to make up for their awful shooting percentage, which is under 36%. Since their offense goes through their guards, they don’t get to the foul line much, but they shoot a solid 80% from the stripe. [...]

[...] Tech’s class is very balanced. The Hokies add two point guards (Hank Thorns and Malcolm Delaney), along with the aforementioned shooting guard, Hudson. Considering Tech does not have a single returning true guard from last year, expect to see a lot of these guys. [...]

[...] Point: Malcolm Delaney (Fr) or Hank Thorns (Fr) - Personally, I like Delaney. I have seen him play and read a ton about him. The guy is magic and you want the ball in his hands. Extremely clutch. The thing is, though, Thorns is ONLY a PG, while Delaney can also play 2. So if both are on the court, expect Delaney to move to SG. [...]
