The Skinny:
Montrezl is a beast. He is a high energy guy that Tech fans, and especially Seth Greenberg, will love. He’s going to bring monster dunks to the Cassell along with thundering blocks and some serious rebounding skills. Think of him as a slightly taller and even more ferocious JT Thompson. Harrell doesn’t have a great repertoire of post moves, nor does he have a great midrange game. But he is going to man the paint line an uncaged tiger.
Montrezl transferred to Hargrave for his senior season from N. Edgecombe Magnet HS. Hargrave has long been a breeding ground for Tech signees under Head Coach Seth Greenberg. Players like Jeff Allen, Dorenzo Hudson, C.J. Barksdale, Robert Brown, and Marquis Rankin played at Hargrave before heading south to Blacksburg. However, all those guys were coached by Kevin Keatts, who left after the 2010-11 season to be an assistant coach under Rick Pitino at louisville. The new head coach is A.W. Hamilton, who played at Hargrave for Keatts before going to wake forest.
Hargrave is not quite as strong this year as in past years. They do feature Codi Miller-McIntyre, a guard headed to wake forest and ranked #70 in the Class of 2012 by Rivals. Andre Washington, a 3-star recruit who is close to 7-foot, is also headed to wake. Ryan Taylor had committed to louisville but the 3-star has since opened his recruiting back up.
Hargrave, because they are a post-graduate team, plays largely community colleges, colleges, university JV teams, and other post-grad teams.
Game Notes (2011-12 Season):
Montrezl has helped lead Hargrave to an 18-0 start to the season. He has led the team in scoring in 10 of their 18 games. Harrell had 11 points and 12 rebounds against national power Oak Hill. But because it was a scrimmage (they cannot play a regular season game since Oak Hill is all undergrads), I didn’t include it in his stats. Here are his numbers by game…
