New Commenting System (everybody calm down)

During the next 24 hours, you’ll notice a change to how you leave comments on TechHoops.com. Before you start grabbing the pitchforks and torches, hear us out.

We’re switching from WordPress’s built-in commenting platform (old and busted) to Disqus (new hotness).

First and foremost, you don’t have to give your real names and you don’t have to create a new account. You can still post anonymously, or using you handles under the old system. Just like you did with the WordPress commenting system, you’ll need to provide a name (real or imagined) and an email address (which you had to do before anyway). Your email address is not displayed to the public. I created a test post using a separate email address from my Disqus account and only the name I provide, “Cope”, was displayed.

From that point on, presumably, you’ll be able to keep track of all of your posts using that name and email address.

However, if you’re not shy about using your real name, you also have the option to use Twitter, Facebook, Google+, or an existing Disqus account, to login and submit your comments.

Additionally, you can share any comments or thread of comments on Twitter, Facebook, or via a link.

Give it a fair shake and if after a while you absolutely hate it, we’ll acquiesce and revert to WordPress (old and busted). Deal?

(God, I can’t WAIT to read the comments below. Wild Turkey at the ready.)

The Wild Hokie Club!

The Hokies are experiencing their worst season since the ricky "program bomb" stokes era. Sure, we could have quit on you, but did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? HELL NO!

And we do it for free! But, just like NPR, we rely on the generosity of our loyal fans to help keep this humble Hokie website alive. That being said, see how you can help TechHoops.com make it to 10 years!

Jon King, Ben Floyd and Dan Rickenbach all got in on the action and we encourage all TechHoops heads to do the same.

Any donation amount earns you a spot in our Wild Hokie Club. We'll even give you a shout out on Twitter and Facebook. We may even let you get armcurled by Niemo.

So join the TechHoops.com Wild Hokie Club today!
